For me, a guest post is like a sorbet between the courses of a large meal (can you tell I like food?). It refreshes the palette, ready for the next course.

In many cases it also adds a delicious flavour of its own.

I've done the same as you have, Richard, by reading more of the guest posters on their own blogs. It's not a bad way to get to know another blog, even if you end up not following it over the longer term.

My own experience is that many bloggers would be nervous about turning their blog over to someone else to guest post, but if well chosen and carefully vetted they can provide a bit of a change and a little extra interest for regular visitors.

You are right about having other bloggers post for you. I like the difference because I feel the host does a bit of work deciding who is interesting for the reader. It is hard enough to find people that are good and a recommendation is always appreciated.

Since Hans has been on vacation there have been 3 or 4 visitors on this blog, and I think Hendry Lee is the first return poster. I have started to read more of each guest poster. I doubt I'll follow them all, but some.
