I use Ning, not sure how useful it is yet. In fact there are quite a few social media that I am not sold on, but some people think they each one is the best.

Comments are great to bring people back. Having interaction between comments (if on topic) are great too. Remember that comments on your blog deserve a reply. When people see that you reply they often come back just to see the answer.

Be specific and print what the reader wants is important. A blog on a topic of your choice will go nowhere if there are no readers interested. It's like opening a store that sells pork in a Muslim neighborhood - only provide what you know the readers will read. Only once people like your subject will they sign up for your RSS feed.

I have recently received Traffic Secrets. Will let you know if this has done anything towards bringing me loads of return visitors.

Right now it is social media and search engines that brings people to my sites and I am not sure how much is return visits. Must remind myself more often to check the analytics on return users.

I agree that site design does make a difference. When I look at other blogs and see everything in all over the place, I tend to just move on. If music is playing in the background, I will move on. Presentation is everything. I like to hope that my site is nice, clean, and easy on the eyes. I do not want it to be an eye sore. Just my 2 cents.

Comments are great. I'm only on my third week and today I had a minor debate in the comment section. It was really exciting. Thanks for the great post.

Sorry to differ Marc, I have read studies that show most design does not matter. If you change the site to make it easier, yes. If you change to make it pretty, no.

People can Google Keywords and find your content. They can't Google clean, clear and functional site.

Having said that, a reader has less of a chance to go back to a cluttered site that is had to work with.
